In airsoft, suppressors (also called silencers) do not significantly reduce the sound of a shot because most of the noise comes from the gearbox or gas mechanism, not the barrel. However, suppressors can help hide longer inner barrels for improved accuracy, and may slightly muffle the muzzle "pop" on some gas guns. They are also popular for aesthetic reasons, giving replicas a tactical look.
