Thank you for your question. No such thing as a dumb one. ;)
We have installed quite a few of these grip connects without an issue. The biggest thing is to have a good vice and drill bit. Clamp them in a vice and drill out the center. The Magpul MOE Grip plates are pretty robust compared to others. Make sure to drill the hole big enough so that the grip connect fits correctly. If it is too tight and you go to tighten down the retaining nut, it can crack the grip connect fitting, which is no bueno.
